This museum will go down in history as the first fine arts museum in the whole of North Neveda. Its name is written in the National Registry of Art Museums.
It came into being in 1950 as the Las Vegas Art League. In 1966 it was housed in historic Lorenzi Park. By the year 1974, the former Art League became Las Vegas Art Museum. The museum relocated to a newly constructed facility in January 1997 called, Sahara West Library/Fine Arts Museum. This remains the current location of the museum. In 2002, the museum became affiliated with the Smithsonian Museum.
It now features prominently in any tourist itinerary. It portrays ambitious fine art exhibitions to its visitors and patrons. These exhibitions are of international stature and showcase both budding and established artists.
The museum makes art accessible to a diverse audience through exhibitions, education, events and community outreach. The museum aspires to enhance the cultural and educational opportunities for the city's residents and visitors
