The Las Vegas city museum vividly recreates the past history of the city. The museum was conceived after veterans from Teddy Roosevelt's Rough Riders regiment named Las Vegas as their official reunion home.
Their vast collection of momentous and artifacts dating back from the American- Spanish civil war demanded a home. Thus the museum was born. The museum not only showcases the Rough Rider's collections but also many domestic artifacts like Rio Grande weavings, porcelain dolls, elegant Spanish colonial furniture, tools and historic documents which brings to life and impart valuable information on Las Vegas's past. The museum is situated in a 1940, Works Progress Administration funded building which was a former municipal building with Pueblo Revival elements.
Their vast collections include local native American pottery, household items, costumes, Rough Rider memorabilia and ranching and farming equipment. The exhibit halls interpret agricultural and mercantile operations, home life and the Santa Fe Trail.
