Las Vegas Helldorado Days

In the current year Las Vegas Helldorado Days will host a colorful celebration of life which includes a Golf Tournament, kick- off dinner, art show and art auction, trail ride, poker tournament, trap shooting tournament and 10 days of horse related events (Horse show, Mexican Rodeo, Ranch Rodeo) at the South Coast Arena.

The idea of Helldorado was conceived by the city fathers when work on the Hoover Dam was in progress. Civic leaders, led by members of the Elks Lodge, realized that they needed an attraction that could continue drawing tourists who had come from all parts of the nation to view work on the dam, and create a sense of community pride in hopes of getting the hundreds of dam workers to consider making Southern Nevada their permanent home. Thus in 1934, Helldorado was born and the first Elks Helldorado celebrations took place.

It has been sponsored annually by the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge #1468. Besides fostering a sense of community pride the event is also used by Elks to raise money for its charitable events. The game of golf is one the prime attractions of this festival.
